How do I setup the Sonos Digital music system?

This system is designed to be easy to setup. To begin, you must first create a Sonos network (SonosNet); to do this you simply connect a Sonos ZoneBridge or Sonos ZonePlayer to your router via an Ethernet cable. Once this is done, you can that place ZonePlayers throughout your home, anywhere where you want to listen to your music.  My home is quite big, how close to the Zone Players need to be (wireless range)?

Typical the range of a ZonePlayer is between 15 and 30 metres, this of course depends on the environment and obstacles (such as thick concrete) that lies in between. To check simply check the Wireless Controller signal strength at the location you wish to place the player, this will instantly tell you if you are in range. The Sonos ZoneBridge will allow you to extend your Sonos network beyond the normal distance and is particularly useful if you have a very large house or problematic wireless reception.

Music seams to stutter, skip or stop.

This can be caused by many different things. Firstly check that all of the ZonePlayers are in range of the Sonos Network (SonosNet). To check this you can use your Wireless controller and check the signal strength at each location.

Next you should check that there isn’t interference from devices like Wireless phones, which use the 2.4GHz frequency that wireless networks use. If so, you should change the frequency. Frequencies of 0.9Ghz and 5.8GHz are suitable to use.

Some routers use a transfer rate of 108Mbs, also known as Super-G, Turbo-G, 802.11n or pre-n. You should disable this feature for best results so that the router functions at the compliance standard of 54Mbps.

Finally, you should ensure that at least one device is connect via Ethernet to your router, attempting to use a wireless bridge configuration will result in undesired effects. For a more in depth information, please consult your manual or visit the official Sonos site.

A ZonePlayer(s) does not display on my controller?

This can be caused by many different issues, firstly check your network conditions (see the FAQ relating to music seams to stutter, skip or stop). Also ensure that the ZonePlayer is powered on and is not performing a self update.

Finally check that your router is assigning IP address, you must have DHCP enabled for the ZonePlayers to work desirably. For a more in depth information, please consult your manual or visit the official Sonos site.

My ZonePlayer is showing red and amber lights?

The ZonePlayer can report many different issues via different combinations of lights. As a guide, if the mute LED and ZP status LED are white, than the ZonePlayer has no problem, flashing green LEDs generally mean the player is booting. Red LED’s are different diagnostic modes and amber LED’s are problems or issues. For a more in depth information, please consult your manual or visit the official Sonos site.
